 • suggestions for successful family prayer

Posted by jmorgan at Friday Oct 29, 2004

My family and I have recently started up a prayer night during the week. We light a candle, gather 'round the table, enjoy prayers together, some traditional, some spontaneous. The kids look forward to the times when they get to lead the session. My oldest daughter reads very well and I have encouraged her to include some scirpture readings during her leads.

I am just wondering if there is anyone out there, who may have some good suggestions for family prayer that will make the kids more aware of the love of God the Father through prayer, and help keep them focused...and adults too...

In Christ;

Hi Again Jim

I forgot to add the web addresses in my previous post. As I mentioned in a previous post there is a Youth and Family Encounter taking place Nov. 20th. I hope that you and your family will consider attending it.

Shalom Jim:

Domestic-Church.com

This is the web site I have used for years and still enjoy even though my children are much older. You will find a richness in Catholic Faith and the resources amazing. If you are not sure where to start, just surf the site until you are familiar with it and use search for family prayer. This site will provide you with the stations in a simplistic yet faith filled manner. Through the years I have purchased the Lent and Easter + the Advent and Christmas books. Our parish childrens liturgy adopted the Lenten cross and the Jesse Tree. Both these activities are very spiritual and can be used at home as a family prayer reflection.
It is great to hear other families are living their Baptism. One other thing you many want to consider. Parish ministry, is for all ages. My daughter often came with my husband and I for Baptisms. We were on the team. Our children often came when we cleaned the church as well. They enjoyed being around the parish and formed a special sense of belonging.

Yours in Christ, Erin
