I would like to introduce to you, Charlotte, the Emmaüs Centre mascot. She is a doll that LISTENS. When we look at her, Charlotte, we are reminded that we must LISTEN to every person that we greet every day.

What does listening mean…

1 put ourselves in their shoes

2 be attentive to what there are saying verbally and non-verbally

3 be concentrated on what the person is telling us

4 detect what their needs are

5 inspire confidence by staying calm and sympathetic

6 not judge the person

7 see Jesus in them

8 paraphrase what the person has told us so that they feel understood

9 pray interiorly while the person is communicating their secret or suffering

10 give them hope, encouragement

The listening ministry is a difficult one but a beautiful one.

Jesus listened a lot…but it isn't clearly stated in the gospels. It simply says Jesus went around doing good. This is what the Emmaus Centre is trying to do with the grace of God.
