Prayer, music and mediation in the heart of the city

Taizé prayer in Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury
Prayer, music and mediation in the heart of the city Prayer, music and mediation in the heart of the city Prayer, music and mediation in the heart of the city

In a world filled with ever-increasing activity and demands put on our time, the alure of soft light, gentle music and a chance to meditate, reflect and pray may seem to be quite enticing.

Last week, Christians in Sudbury gathered for the second public moment of Taizé prayer at Ste-Anne-des-Pins church. The first such gathering took place in January, during the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, and many of those who had attended the January gathering came back for this most recent opportunity.

The prayer known as Taizé began in the small village in central France which bears the same name. Since 1940, more and more people of all ages have found peace, tranquility and inspiration through their visits to Taizé.

In Sudbury, the next Taizé prayer gathering will take place at Ste-Anne-des-Pins parish in the downtown core on Wednesday of Holy Week, April 4, 2007. Other gatherings are also planned for May 23 and June 27, 2007. If the thought of a moment of peace, surrounded with music and an atmosphere which draws you into restful silence is appealing to you, mark your calendars now and plan to join us.

Taizé prayer gatherings also take place in Sault Ste. Marie on the second Wednesday of each month at Saint Jerome's parish. If you live in that city, and would like to experience this form of prayer, mark your calendars now. Taizé prayer will be celebrated on March 14, April 11, May 9 and June 13, 2007.
