Local choir to offer concert in Sudbury
The Troubadours invite you to revisit the 60s, 70s and 80s
The TROUBADOURS invite you to their upcoming annual concert entitled PEACE AND LOVE, presenting the tunes you probably remember growing up. Indeed, this year's concert showcases music from the 60s, 70s and 80s, including some golden oldies by the Beatles, Abba, Donna Summers, Three Dog Night, Olivia Newton John, the Temptations and many more.
The TROUBADOURS, a well-known semi-professional community choir, began in 1994. For 13 years, they have been the toast of the Greater Sudbury region, enchanting one and all with their distinctive musical performances. Originally, the TROUBADOURS informally gathered a group of friends who enjoyed great music. As the years went by, the group evolved into a unique, bilingual, community choir reputed for the originality of its numbers, the high energy of its choristers, its well-varied repertory and the complexity of its vocal arrangements.
This year, the TROUBADOURS choir consists of 30 voices directed Marc Cyr, a highly regarded local musician in the City of Greater Sudbury. "I have chosen this music because of the excellent memories it brings back, but also for its cool harmonies and funky rhythm," explains this perpetual hippie. "I must admit, however, that I also really enjoy watching this group boogie to these disco tunes!"
Once again, the TROUBADOURS have called upon many professionals, including a group of extraordinary musicians, and the one and only Stephane Ostrander, pianist and official accompanist, to perform the music as you remember it. Many pieces have also been choreographed to remind you of the moves you used to have on the dance floor. "Who would have believed I could become a 'Dancing Queen' once again?" reflects Jacqueline Gauthier, President of the TROUBADOURS. "It's a real blast to sing along to the tunes that used to blare from the 8-track tapes in my car!"
As it is now customary, the TROUBADOURS will donate a portion of the proceeds from its performances to young local talents to help them fully develop their artistic potential. Since its inception 10 years ago, the choir has presented bursaries totalling $10,000 to a number of budding artists from across the region.
PEACE AND LOVE will be presented on May 4 and 5, at 7:30 p.m., and on May 6, 2007, at 2:30 p.m. at the Fraser Auditorium, Laurentian University (Ramsey Lake Rd, Sudbury). Tickets are $5 for kids (12 and under) and $15 for all others. You can get them from members of the TROUBADOURS by calling 705-969-3002 or from any of these locations: Black Cat Too, Jett Landry Music and the Coop du Collège Boréal.
