The Pauline Year

The Year of Saint Paul - June 28, 2008 to June 29, 2009
The Pauline Year The Pauline Year

Pope Benedict XVI called the Pauline year during the celebration of first Vespers for the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul on June 28, 2007 in order to commemorate the second millennium of the birth of the Apostle of the Gentiles.  The Holy Father highlighted the ecumenical dimension of the event because Saint Paul "was particularly committed to bringing the Good News to all people, and made prodigious efforts for the unity and harmony of all Christians".

The diocese will be taking this opportunity to provide the faithful with various activities in order to "rediscover the figure of the Apostle; reread the numerous Letters he sent to the first Christian communities; relive the early years of our Church; delve deeply into his rich teaching to the "Gentiles"; meditate on his vigorous spirituality of faith, hope and charity; revitalise our faith and our role in today’s Church in the light of his teaching; to pray and work for the unity of all Christians in a united Church".

Faith Sharing:

With regards to our pre-advent faith-sharing materials, we will provide groups with a specific focus on Pauline themes like, mercy, redemption, forgiveness, truth, and others.

Newsletter:

Various columns will be published in our diocesan newsletter speaking to one or another letter or epistle attributed to Saint Paul. The first column addresses the shortest letter, Saint Paul’s letter to Philemon regarding the slave Onesimus.
