Easter

The liturgical season of Easter begins on Easter Sunday and lasts until Pentecost. During these fifty days, the Church celebrates the Resurrection of the Lord.

Perhaps even more so than the Christmas season, which is celebrated from Christmas to the Epiphany, the Easter season is a time for the Church to rejoice because Christ overcame the power of death and rose to new life. Because of this, we no longer fear death, and look forward to union with God when our lives on this earth are ended.

During the first week of the Easter season, known as the Octave of Easter, each day is celebrated liturgically as thoough it were one continual day, when we gather at the empty tomb with the apostles and with Mary to sing our song of joy. Christ is risen, alleluia! This joy is continually echoed in the liturgies celebrated for seven weeks, until the feast of Pentecost.
